finished projects

I never typed a follow-up to my house problems. A couple weeks ago, the day we went to Birch Run, T.S. and his helper came over and built my porch. It is wonderful! No more falling off, no more weird redneck fencing, and they added some little decorative touches that just make it so homey.

Also, Dad came by yesterday and made a dog run for Toby. It goes from the house to a tree in the backyard. So far he's only gotten stuck around the tree once; the other time I got him to go around it. It's so much nicer for him, I love it! Also while Dad was here, we hung up the outdoor thermometer that was just laying on the ground when I moved in. It's attached to the porch so I could clearly see that the temperature climbed above 60 degrees today :)

a God story

This is basically the email I sent to a friend last night after a terrible day...

"Today was hellish! We got an admission that just didn't go well and made for a rotten second half of the shift... I was so frusterated and I prayed on my way home because most of the time when I leave work I am happy and ok with my move to MI, but sometimes I really miss H (but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE living here near family and friends. I love seeing my parents as much as I do- esp after this weekend of seeing them all three days!!), but after rotten days like today, I really miss H and the nurses and Docs I worked with. So I prayed because I can't figure out what to do about my unhappiness with the situation: I told God, I don't know what to do- I go to church when I don't have to work, I read my Bible (almost every night before bed), I am seeing my family, and seeing friends, I do have a good job in that I get to do what I love and that's work with babies and their families- but at times it all doesn't seem like enough and I am clueless what to do to fix it!, and about 5-8mins later, I got a phone call I didn't recognize. It was K, the mom of my primary from H and I talked with her for probably 10-12 mins and talked to R, her fiance for about 5 mins and it just completely made my day! I got off the phone and I just looked out at the sky through my windshield and said "Thank you", because God was totally behind that. He gave me the reminder that even though I have some rotten days and some days I just get so frusterated at adjusting to a new hospital, that in the end, the lives I touch are what make it worth it."

i'm in!

The "interview" with Covenant went wonderfully yesterday! I say "interview" because I had already done an interview over the phone and was pretty sure I would be hired. I met with the HR lady I had spoken with previously and she had a couple more questions for me as well as benefits to go over. We took a quick tour of Covenant- I didn't realize how big it was and how connected it was! A person could get lost in there! Then we went up to the NICU. The managers I met were with so nice and happy. They asked me a few questions and then we just discussed the unit and how they do schedules, etc. I left there feeling that the job would be offered to me.

In the evening, Mom and I met Jen up at church. I haven't been home in 1.5 years so I was interested to see all the new additions they've made. Turns out, there wasn't a church service, but I at least got to see the additions.

We went to Kohl's as they were having a one-day sale and we had a $10 off coupon. I bought a shirt, two really super comfy pajama pants and some photo albums.

Today has been a back and forth day. There was the possibility that I was going to stay the night with Gram tonight while my aunt took her friend to the airport in Detroit. But the plans have changed back and forth and finally I am not staying the night. Jen and I will stop by and see Gram for a little bit before going to the Loon's game.

That's about it. I am adjusting to the changing temperatures. Yesterday I woke up to 45 degree weather- was not expecting that in August! But then the days warm up into the 70s and it is perfect weather for driving with the windows down and moon roof open :)

Toby and Rodney are getting along fine. I am getting used to Rodney's foot fetish and they are enjoying playing and wrestling with each other. They are both napping on Jen's bed right now.
This is me driving Sing Sing into Michigan.

And this is Toby and I in Sing Sing.

last days in Texas

I mostly enjoyed my last days. I didn't enjoy all the packing! I forgot how awful it is! The big stuff is easy to pack, but the more you pack, the more crap you realize you have until at the end, you just have a box full of miscellaneous crap that you don't even know why you still own.

Thursday we went to Granny's house for the goodbye dinner she set up. Almost all of my relatives came and it was a really good evening. My Godson and Jen's Goddaughter came home with us to stay the night. Friday we played with the kids, moved Ed into his apartment and then went to dinner at Gringo's. For those who have travelled up north, you know there aren't many good Mexican restaurants, so we had to go to our favorite one last time before I moved. It was so good!

Saturday we finished packing Sing Sing and then headed out around noon. We drove until 1am Sunday morning, slept at a motel and then got up, ate breakfast and were on the road again by 830am.

We made it home at about 11pm ET, but went straight to the storage unit to unload the Uhaul trailer. Dad works nights and Sunday is his one night off, so it was perfect that he was able to come help us unload. I think we finally got to bed sometime around 1am Monday morning!

Monday I unpacked the boxes I brought to the house and returned the trailer. I still have two boxes to unpack, but otherwise I think I am good to go. Tonight we are going to visit Gram and then tomorrow I am going to Covenant to meet with the HR rep and fill out paperwork.

I will post pictures later :)

Just wanted to quick update everyone that I made it to Michigan late last night, about 11pm, and everyone/thing is intact! :) We have lots to do today, unpacking, returning trailer, etc., so I plan to write about the trip later.

last day at Hermann

Today a chapter in my life ends and a new one begins. I have worked at CMHH for 2.5 years and as much as I am excited to move home, I am going to miss working there so much!

My last day was a good one. I was in a pod with my fabulous preceptor- a perfect ending, I think. She is an amazing nurse and I learned so much from her. I was so happy to receive a card and some goodies from the nurses today- it makes me feel so good to be so liked by all of them.

Even though I am not really traveling yet, I will keep y'all updated on my "travels" here. So far the plan is to leave Houston Saturday 8/16 and arrive in Michigan Sunday. I don't start work until September 8th so I am excited to have 3 weeks off to visit with family, relax, settle and find a nice place close to Covenant to live.
